.........Russia will be holding an international conference on the Syrian Civil War. The conference’s goal is “to exert pressure on the US and some Arab states to stop their growing financial and arms support for terrorists in Syria”.

Strange that a terrorist can also be considered a rebel or freedom fighter depending on the perspective. Our perspective is formed by the media and the government. It is hard to believe that the Muslim Brotherhood/Al Qaeda rebels in Syria are not terrorists, but freedom fighters that need our support. It appears that the United States is about to become involved in yet another war (or kinetic action) just in time to become a campaign issue and distract us from the economic collapse. Obama has become embroiled in a no win scenario in Syria and I seriously doubt that Hillarious Clinton is up to this challenge. No more easy button for her.

Obama Is Losing A Stunning Amount Of African-American Support In North Carolina

http://bridges.transportation.org/Pages/NorthCarolina.aspx

President Barack Obama is rapidly losing support among African-American voters in North Carolina, a new poll out today from the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling shows.

The poll finds that Mitt Romney would get 20 percent of the African-American vote if the election were held today, compared with 76 percent for Obama. Overall, Romney has a 48 percent to 46 percent lead on Obama in the crucial swing state.

Obama received 95 percent of the support from African-Americans in North Carolina in the 2008 election, compared with just 5 percent for Republican nominee John McCain.

African American vote

Public Policy Polling

In PPP's May poll, Obama received 87 percent of the African-American vote to Romney's 11 percent.

All of Obama's numbers with African-Americans are sliding. His approval rating is down from 86 percent to 77 percent. Romney's favorability, meanwhile, has doubled from 9 percent to 18 percent.

Death of Governor John W. Ellis

“I am trying to do my duty -- & be sure that I understand too well ever to make an unnecessary….risk of the life which belongs to my family as well as myself.”
[Colonel] Charles F. Fisher to his sister, July 17, 1861.

On July 3, 1861, the [Sixth North Carolina] regiment was officially transferred to the service of the Confederate States. This probably meant an early transfer to the seat of war in Virginia. The men entrained without incident on July 8 for Raleigh, passing through Hillsboro to the cheers of “a large portion of the ladies and citizens of the town, and many from the country around,” who had assembled at the depot to see them pass.

Upon arrival at Raleigh, the men received the sad news. Governor [John W.] Ellis had died “on the 7th inst, at the Red Sulphur Springs Va.” Fisher was directed to….”detail two companies of your Regt under Major [Charles E.] Lightfoot, for the purpose of proceeding to Petersburg to escort the body to this place.”

The remainder of the regiment was ordered to remain in Raleigh to be held “in readiness “ to form the funeral escort. These were sad beginnings for an illustrious career. Lieutenant Colonel [William T.] Dortch was ordered to go to Tarboro to “accompany Mr. Clark here.” The last honors to North Carolina’s deceased governor had to be carried out even though Confederate President Jefferson Davis had been informed that the regiment would be at Richmond “ten days ago.”

Henry T. Clark, North Carolina’s new governor, assured Confederate Secretary of War Leroy P. Walker that the regiment “will leave tomorrow and will be subject to your orders and is now formally tendered.”

At 9:30 A.M. on July 10 the remains of Governor Ellis, escorted by Company B and C of the Sixth Regiment, arrived at the depot of the North Carolina Railroad in Raleigh. The governor’s body was “removed from the cars and escorted to the Capitol by the military guard,” where the State flag was placed over the coffin. The Raleigh Register described the funeral procession:

“At 10 o’clock the procession moved from the south gate of the Capitol down Fayetteville Street to the Executive Mansion, in the following order: Brigadier General Gwynn, State Troops commanding, aided by Captain A.D. Moore. 1st Music, 2nd, Sixth Regiment of Infantry, Col. Fisher, 3rd. Ellis Light Artillery, Maj. Ramseur, 4th, Hearse with the body, 5th. Pall Bearers, 6th Reverend Clergy, 7th Surgeon General and Medical Staff, 8th, Family and relations of deceased, 9th, Governor of State, 10th Speaker of House of Commons, 11th, Officers of the Executive Departments….

On the morning of the 11th “about 8 o’clock”….the coffin was escorted from the mansion to the North Carolina Railroad….deposited on the train, and sent to the Ellis family burying ground near Holtsburg, Davidson County. While these obsequies were in progress, the business places in Raleigh were closed and private homes were draped in mourning.

The public buildings in Raleigh “and the statue of Washington on the Capitol Square” were also draped. All flags were lowered to half-mast, bells tolled, and “half-hour guns fired during the day by a detachment of the Wilmington Light Artillery.” Read more at http://www.ncwbts150.com/RegimentsDefendOldNorthState.php

Communist Defector Speaks Out on America’s Marxist Future

A top communist defector is warning of an unprecedented “alliance” between the Democratic Party and the Communist Party, reflected in the CPUSA’s endorsement of Barack Obama for president in 2008 and the party’s continued support for Democratic Party policies. But is this warning going to be too hot to handle for the media? And the Republicans?

Lt. Gen. Ion Mihai Pacepa, the highest-ranking official ever to have defected from the former Soviet bloc, says in an article [1] for PJMedia that any doubt that the Democratic and the Communist parties had secretly joined forces was erased in 2009, “when Van Jones, part of a left fringe of declared communists, became the White House’s green jobs czar.”

Obama aide Valerie Jarrett had disclosed at a left-wing bloggers convention that “we,” apparently referring to herself and President Obama, had hired Jones for the job. However, Jones was fired when an outcry developed over his communist background, and the media quickly dropped any probes into Jones’ White House contacts.

Pacepa, who served as a top aide in the Romanian communist regime, tells Accuracy in Media, “The Democratic Party has become dangerously infected with the Marxism virus. I recognize the symptoms because I once lived through them, and I believe it is my obligation as an American citizen to help the conservative movement to prevent any further spread of Marxism in my adopted country.”

He adds that he is personally convinced that Obama is a Marxist.

Golden Dawn threatens hospital raids against immigrants in Greece

In an atmosphere that has become increasingly electric before Greece's crucial election, the far-right Golden Dawn has ratcheted up the rhetoric by threatening to remove immigrants and their children from hospitals and kindergartens.

Earning loud applause at an election campaign rally in Athens, Golden Dawn MP Ilias Panagiotaros said: "If Chrysi Avgi [Golden Dawn] gets into parliament [as polls predict], it will carry out raids on hospitals and kindergartens and it will throw immigrants and their children out on the street so that Greeks can take their place."

Medical supplies and beds at some hospitals are running desperately short. The governor of the state-run Nikea hospital, Theodoros Roupas, called on doctors to stop non-essential surgical interventions because of a critical shortage of gloves, syringes and gauze. The order was revoked when Roupas found emergency supplies later in the day.

"The situation is really critical and getting worse every day," said Dr Panaghiotis Papanikolaou, a neurosurgeon at the hospital. "There is not enough medical staff to cope and huge shortages of supplies. There's no money to even service scanners and surgical microscopes … we're talking about a major healthcare crisis – not in the making, it is happening now."

Sheriff Joe Strikes Back: Asks Court to Dismiss Eric Holder DOJ’s Lawsuit

Via Don

Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s attorneys have filed a “Motion to Dismiss” in response to Eric Holder’s ridiculous lawsuit alleging racial discrimination by the Sheriff and his deputies against “Latinos” through their enforcement of existing Federal immigration laws.

Arpaio’s lawyers have called on a Federal court in Phoenix to dismiss the DOJ’s lawsuit, in a 23-page response, asserting that Holder failed to back his claims with “sufficient statistical evidence.” Such evidence is required in Federal discrimination lawsuits, and the DOJ has provided none.

The filing also asserts that the DOJ has no ability to even sue the sheriff’s office “because it is a nonjural entity incapable of suing or being sued,” and asked for the sheriff’s office to be dismissed as a defendant. This claim seems well-grounded in case law, and would provide a major hurdle for Holder & Co. if the judge agrees with Arpaio’s claim.

Fear That Kills

=======
RegT on said:

As a former peace officer, I will correct you on the behavior of the LVPD cops: they were not afraid of the man with the gun. One on one, they would be, but not when they respond in force. The killing of Eric Scott happened because there are too many cops – and apparently, it is an even bigger problem in Las Vegas – who want to get the chance to kill someone.

Any opportunity to do so under the illusion of “defending” themselves against a man with a gun is Christmas for them. It’s a freebie, where they know they can get away with murder and never be held accountable. They get to shoot to kill without cost to themselves. They get the “thrill” of being the bad-ass gun-fighter, the SWAT warrior.

Just like the scumbag cop who leaned in – after all the other SWAT “heroes” had finished filling him full of lead – and fired his pistol at the prostrate form of Jose Guerena’s dying body.

When I worked at San Diego PD as a police officer, we called these guys “felony cops”. They were the guys who would ignore the radio, ignore other officers who needed assistance with a car accident or a domestic violence call, and only respond to robberies, burglaries where the perp was believed to still be on scene, or any other call where they would have the chance to draw their gun and maybe get to take a shot at a “bad guy”. It didn’t matter whether he was really bad or just a victim of someone’s suspicions of him doing something wrong.

These are also the same guys who fought to get on SWAT. Not only could they get a chance to kill someone, they could do it with cool tools, HK MP5′s, M4′s, or a sniper rifle.

It’s not about fear, really. It’s about killing – not in self-defense, but as homicide, as murder. And since it is pre-meditated, since they plan on doing what they have to in order to get a chance to do it, it is indeed murder in the first.

The Robot Goes Down

Gone for Soldiers, Every One

http://www.asia-bars.com/2010/08/apocalypse-now-bar-nightclub-ho-chi-minh-city-vietnam/

You know, I could almost get tired of what happens to vets. I could almost get real tired of it. I guess I have a bad attitude.

I met Tom the Robot seven or eight years ago at the CamaleĂ³n, a booze chute in Ajijic. He was of average stature, lean, not shave-headed but close, and his eyes said that you didn’t want trouble with him. He didn’t know the crowd at the CamaleĂ³n and seemed to be a loner. We talked a little. He made oblique reference to having done some military things that people don’t really do. Most people, anyway.

I took him for a bullshitter. You get a lot of that in Mexico. You know: “I used to be a fighter pilot after I was president of IBM, before I was a SEAL team leader in IV Corps, and an assassin for the CIA. But I can’t talk about it.” Yeah, sure.

Later I got to know the guy. He wasn’t a bullshiter. Bullshitters didn't really know the military lingo, seven-eighty-twice gear, ma deuce, brain-housing group, bloop tube, HALO. We got along. We had both grown up in the rural South, Tom in Florida, I in Virginia. We were citizens of the same world—guns, fishing, hotrods, boats, fast bikes, scuba, etc. He knew that a valve train wasn’t a way of transporting valves, and what Swamp Rat II was. He had wrecked his quota of cars and hunted ‘gators with a flashlight and a twelve-gauge. In short he was a crazy mother in the best tradition of crazy mothers.

And there was Nam. There are two kinds of men, those who were there and those who weren’t. It wasn’t that being there made you better or worse, just that there are two kinds of men. We didn’t talk about it much. Most don’t. Still, there was a bond, a commonality.

Atlanta: The Eighth Most Violent City In America

Georgia

I’m sticking this here for Paul Kersey:

“8. Atlanta, Ga.
> Violent crimes per 1,000: 14.3
> Population: 425,533
> 2011 murders: 88
> Median income: $41,631
> Unemployment rate:12.1%

Compared to most American cities, Atlanta has extremely high incidences of both violent and property crimes. The city’s 8.27 aggravated assaults per 1,000 people is one of the 10 highest rates among the country’s largest cities, as is the city’s 70.84 property crimes per 1,000 people. Atlanta also has one of the nation’s highest rates of motor vehicle theft, with a total of 5,371 incidents in the city last year. Vehicle theft likely will remain an issue throughout 2012 as well; in March almost 100 individuals were arrested as part of a single auto theft operation.”

Note: In The Color of Crime: Atlanta, OD’s investigation into violent crime in “The City Too Busy To Hate” revealed that African-Americans were responsible for 100 percent of homicide, 95 percent of rape, 94 percent of robbery, 84 percent of aggravated assault, and 93 percent of burglary.

Mexican cartels using small NC towns to traffic drugs

Less than a mile off a county road in Ivanhoe near the Black River, federal drug agents and local authorities found exactly what their informant had promised.

"We saw what looked like, as far as you could see, marijuana plants," said Drug Enforcement Administration agent Michael Franklin.

There were about 2,400 in all, surrounded by a makeshift camp where the growers had illegally squatted on private property, setting up a generator and pump to tap the river for irrigation. The camp, which had been recently inhabited, contained a tarp shelter, canned fuel, drinking water, toiletries and old clothing, some of it camouflage.

Authorities staked out the "grow" for two days waiting for the marijuana farmers to return. They didn't. It was just as well, Franklin said.

"The people we were really focusing on were not the guys tending the field. The guys bankrolling the field were the target," he said.

WI anti-Gunners want identities of CCP holders

Via Guns Save Lives

Good luck, dingbats.

http://www.seanbonner.com/blog/archives/002092.php

A gun prohibitionist organization in Wisconsin is demanding a change in that state’s fledgling concealed carry law that will allow anti-gunners access to the names of people who possess concealed carry permits.

The revelation came from WEAU news.

The Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort (WAVE) started calling for the law change before the state’s carry statute was six months old. The group ran into a roadblock when the state Department of Justice said the statute, which took effect last Nov. 1, includes a provision that forbids the disclosure of CCP information unless it is related to an on-going criminal case.

Permit applications are nudging the 100,000 mark, and more than 83,000 have been issued, according to WEAU. The state has also denied about two percent of applications so far, but there was no indication why.

Badger State gun owners had struggled for several years to get a concealed carry statute on the books. Twice, former anti-gun Democrat Gov. Jim Doyle had vetoed concealed carry bills, but pro-gun Republican Scott Walker, who had vowed to sign the legislation, did just that in 2011. Almost immediately after the law took effect, the state had tens of thousands of applications to process.

Wisconsin’s adoption of a carry law leaves only Illinois without some form of legal carry for personal protection.

WAVE’s Jeri Bonavia told a reporter she wants to know who is getting CCPs in Wisconsin. In an interview with WEAU, she said “When this law was being discussed we were promised that the people who would get these conceal carry permits would be the most law abiding people in the state. And we want to know whether or not that’s true.”

However, gun owners have a far different take on the issue, and they contend that WAVE wants to violate their privacy. People who apply for, and receive, a CCP go through a criminal background check. One man, Martin Brill, told the news station that even the sheriff’s department cannot just ask someone of they have a permit .

“The sheriff’s department can’t ask anyone of they have a conceal carry when they stop them,” he said. “Why should it be made public?”

Ann Rutherford, the demure brunette actress who played the sweetheart in the long-running Andy Hardy series and Scarlett O'Hara's youngest sister in "Gone With the Wind," has died. She was 94.

A close friend, Anne Jeffreys, said she was at Rutherford's side when the actress died Monday evening at home in Beverly Hills. Rutherford died of heart problems and had been ill for several months, Jeffreys said.

Rutherford's death was first reported by the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/MEPubi ).

"She was a dear person, a very funny lady, wonderful heart, was always trying to do things for people," said Jeffreys, a leading lady of many films of the 1940s and a star of the 1950s TV sitcom "Topper."

Rutherford was a frequent guest at "Gone With the Wind" celebrations in Georgia and, as one of the few remaining actors from the movie, continued to attract fans from around the world, Jeffreys said.

"She loved it. It really stimulated the last years of her life, because she got thousands of emails from fans," Jeffreys said. "She was in great demand."

She was also known for the Andy Hardy series, a hugely popular string of comical, sentimental films, that starred Lewis Stone as a small-town judge and Mickey Rooney as his spirited teenage son.

Rutherford first appeared in the second film of the series, "You're Only Young Once," in 1938, and she went on 11 more. She played Polly Benedict, the ever-faithful girlfriend that Andy always returned to, no matter what other, more glamorous girl had temporarily caught his eye. (Among the other girls: Judy Garland and Lana Turner.)

It was said she won the part of Carreen — the youngest of the three O'Hara sisters in "Gone With the Wind" — because Judy Garland was filming "The Wizard of Oz."

Rutherford told the Times in 2010 that MGM head Louis B. Mayer was going to refuse her the role, calling it "a nothing part." But Rutherford, who was a fan of the novel, uncharacteristically burst into tears and he relented.

Rutherford plays the sister who, early in the film, begs to be allowed to go to the ball at Ashley Wilkes' plantation. "Oh, Mother, can't I stay up for the ball tomorrow? ... I'm 13 now," she says in a sweet voice.

========

There are some important findings at Climate Audit today. Once again I have tried to set out a layman's version of the discussion there.

One of the perennial problems with temperature reconstructions has been a lack of data covering the southern hemisphere - the Hockey Stick itself was a northern hemisphere reconstruction, although the IPCC billed it as global in extent. However, a recent paper by Gergis et al sought to partially remedy this by presenting an Australasian temperature reconstruction for the last millennium, based on 27 proxy records, primarily from tree rings and corals. The headline was, perhaps not unexpectedly, that late twentieth century warming was unprecedented:

The average reconstructed temperature anomaly in Australasia during A.D. 1238–1267, the warmest 30-year pre-instrumental period, is 0.09°C (±0.19°C) below 1961–1990 levels.

Police officers in Indiana are upset over a new law allowing residents to use deadly force against public servants, including law enforcement officers, who unlawfully enter their homes. It was signed by Republican Governor Mitch Daniels in March.
The first of its kind in the United States, the law was adopted after the state Supreme Court went too far in one of its rulings last year, according to supporters. The case in question involved a man who assaulted an officer during a domestic violence call. The court ruled that there was “no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police officers.”

Benjamin, quondam “rebel,” if you please, is characteristic of the policy of those who have been carrying forward the exceptional – really stupendous enterprises which the Yale University Press has undertaken. In my opinion, the South should generously respond to this happy spirit in support of the…. [project] of Yale University.

In this New England recognition of Judah P. Benjamin, one is reminded of the late Charles Francis Adam’s great address of some twenty-odd years ago: “Shall Cromwell Have a Statue,” which was another way of referring to the recognition then suggested for a far greater “rebel” than the capable leader of the “Ironsides.”

It would be a splendid thing for some American of means to create a similar Foundation at the Yale Scientific School in honor of the greatest of the many great scientists of America – Matthew Fontaine Maury.

Second Amendment Foundation, Calguns Foundation Target San Francisco Bay Area Gun Confiscations

Last month, the Second Amendment Foundation filed a suit in federal court against the police departments of San Francisco and Oakland. The suit was over the police departments’ refusal to return firearms confiscated from individuals during the course of investigations in which those individuals were later cleared of wrongdoing.

The filing, which came just days before the similar story of wounded Afghan war veteran Lt. Augustine Kim surfaced, where, after stop for a medical appointment at Walter Reed during a trip from New Jersey to South Carolina, Kim was arrested and his firearms confiscated by DC police.

The Calguns Foundation is a 501(c)3 “providing Second Amendment-related education, strategic litigation and the defense of innocent California gun owners from improper or malicious prosecution.” The case is known as Churchill, et al. v. Harris, et al.

The European Atrocity You Never Heard About 2

In the largest episode of forced migration in history, millions of German-speaking civilians were sent to Germany from Czechoslovakia and other European countries after World War II by order of the United States, Britain, and the Soviet Union. An estimated 500,000 people died in the course of the organized expulsions; survivors were left in Allied-occupied Germany to fend for themselves.

The screams that rang throughout the darkened cattle car crammed with deportees, as it jolted across the icy Polish countryside five nights before Christmas, were Dr. Loch's only means of locating his patient. The doctor, formerly chief medical officer of a large urban hospital, now found himself clambering over piles of baggage, fellow passengers, and buckets used as toilets, only to find his path blocked by an old woman who ignored his request to move aside. On closer examination, he discovered that she had frozen to death.

Finally he located the source of the screams, a pregnant woman who had gone into premature labor and was hemorrhaging profusely. When he attempted to move her from where she lay into a more comfortable position, he found that "she was frozen to the floor with her own blood." Other than temporarily stanching the bleeding, Loch was unable to do anything to help her, and he never learned whether she had lived or died. When the train made its first stop, after more than four days in transit, 16 frost-covered corpses were pulled from the wagons before the remaining deportees were put back on board to continue their journey. A further 42 passengers would later succumb to the effects of their ordeal, among them Loch's wife.

Your Wealth Was STOLEN

The Market Ticker
VERBATIM POST

Ron Paul: Don't Steal, the government hates competition

Do you believe me now?

The net worth of the American family has fallen to its lowest level in two decades, according to government data released Monday, driven by a more than 40 percent drop in their stakes in their homes.

The Federal Reserve’s detailed survey of consumer finances showed families’ median wealth plunged from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010 — a 39 percent decline. That put them on par with median wealth in 1992.

Where did it go? To the banksters, who took your wealth and used it to cover their fraudulent credit creation.

And who made this possible? Your government, who you continue to support and demand..... commit yet more fraud (just "against someone else please!")

The Fed’s data underscore the depth of the wounds of the Great Recession and how far many families remain from healing. The median value of Americans’ debt did not change between 2007 and 2010. Meanwhile, the housing market crash inflicted particularly severe damage, with the Fed showing that the median value of Americans’ equity in their homes plunged 42.3 percent between 2007 and 2010.

That "equity" was never real. It was a phantom created by the banksters out of whole cloth -- an out-and-out pyramid scheme and a fraud. The FBI warned of it years before the bubble burst and the appraisers sent a petition to Congress in the early part of the 2000s warning of it too. George W. Bush actually sued states to prevent them from putting a stop to it and Obama has refused to bring a single indictment related to it. Your Congress, Democrat and Republicans alike, have not only refused to demand investigations and prosecutions but have handed over trillions of dollars of deficit spending to explicitly cover over the fraud that would have otherwise sunk these institutions and then on top of it made balance sheet lies legal.

You ate all of this, and you should -- but in a just world where fraud was not the business model of choice the banksters would eat it too and would be long out of business and most of them would be broke.

That's the only way to effectively stop this sort of misbehavior -- make damn sure it hurts, so that when you do this and the bubble bursts, both the borrowers and lenders get reamed.

But remember folks, "Nobody committed any crimes", according to all three of the major Presidential Candidates.
